NCCCFA Legislative Alert

House Bill Would Raise CC Faculty and Staff Salaries Substantially

Recently introduced House Bill 81 would raise community college faculty and staff salaries by 10.25 percent. This percentage is in line with the NCCCS budget request approved by the State Board of Community Colleges and submitted to the legislature this year.

The bill would also raise the minimum faculty salaries by the same percentage.

You can see House Bill 81 at http://www.ncleg.net/Sessions/2007/Bills/House/HTML/H81v1.html.

The primary sponsors of House Bill 81 are Representatives Jean Farmer-Butterfield, Marian N. McLawhorn, and Joe Tolson, all long-time supporters of community colleges.

Please write or call these representatives to thank them for their sponsorship of this bill. Contact information for each of them is below.

Also, please contact your representative and ask him or her to support House Bill 81. We will need a lot of legislators’ support to get this bill incorporated into the final budget bill this year.
